Your period is natural. What about the menstrual products that you use?

The dirty little secret about conventional menstrual pads and tampons
If you suffer from a period rash, itch, or discomfort, listen up. It’s not you. It’s them.

Conventional menstrual pads and tampons contain a number of unexpected and unwholesome substances that can cause irritations and other health concerns.

Here’s a dirty little secret: tampon and menstrual pad manufacturers are not required to list ingredients on their packages.
They might not want to tell you what’s in their products, but we do. Here’s a quick breakdown of what you can find in their menstrual products:
  • Their sanitary pads and liners use Nonwoven topsheets made from a byproduct of petrochemicals typically made from plastic resins...the same ingredients used to make plastic bags. Last time we checked, plastic was not the most breathable fabric. In fact, plastic traps moisture and heat, creating an environment that promotes the growth of yeast and bacteria. That’s a big ‘No, thank you’!

Maxim only uses hypoallergenic organic and natural cotton in our menstrual pad topsheet.
  • Their tampons use viscose rayon, which contains pesticides, insecticides, herbicides, and dioxins...toxic chemicals which are then inserted into a very permeable part of our bodies for hours at a time.

Maxim only uses 100% Certified Organic Cotton in our tampons for pure and safe period protection.
  • Maybe you’ve never heard of security veils before, but these thin membranes surround the absorbent core of a tampon to prevent fibers from shedding and coming loose, which can be left behind on the vaginal walls and become a breeding ground for bacteria. Now that you know what they are, do you know what they’re made of? Theirs are made of plastic melted to the core.

Maxim security veils are made of 100% Certified Organic Cotton.
  • Their menstrual pads use Fluff Pulp and Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP) in their absorbent core. Fluff Pulp is chemically-processed wood pulp, which is then bleached. Chlorine bleaching forms dioxin, a known carcinogen. And while the FDA states that trace amounts of dioxin are safe, there are studies that demonstrate a connection between dioxin and cancer when used over time.

Maxim’s menstrual pads are made of organic and all-natural cotton core. No chemicals. No chlorine bleaching. No dioxins. No worries.
At Maxim, we always list our ingredients on our products. Why? Because we have nothing to hide. In fact, we’re proud of our line of organic and all-natural cotton products. Plus, our products are always naturally biodegradable, so they’re eco-friendly and body-friendly.

High five, Earth!

Disposable or reusable? The choice is up to you!
Our organic and natural cotton disposables are biodegradable, so you can use them guilt-free if a reusable is just not your thing. Or you can mix disposable with a reusable for a customized combination to suit your menstrual and self-care needs.

Meet the founders
Kenneth Alvandi, Founder and President, spent over thirty years in the distribution and manufacturing of personal care products. After owning and operating his own manufacturing facility for fourteen years in Winnipeg, Canada, the combination of his experience, personal values for healthy sustainable living, and the very special female family members in his life, led to his vision of a complete line of 100% Organic and Natural Chlorine Free Cotton Menstrual Care products.

Rebecca Alvandi, Chief Flow Rider and Vice President, teamed up with her father, Kenneth, to launch Maxim in 2006. Inspired by her father’s vision and her own personal beliefs in a healthier planet, healthier body, Rebecca is driven by her desire to keep women informed and safe when it comes to their product choices. Her passion lies in creating a community amongst women committed to good health, a happy Earth, and empowering each other through the company’s fierce woman philosophy. Rebecca has worked with government legislators in the fight for women’s rights and free tampons at schools. Thanks to her efforts in working with NY Assemblywoman Carolyn Maloney, New York dropped the sales tax on menstrual products.
